Why choose Edison Academy?
1. A School within a School
The main advantage of having a school within a school is that a seamless transition can take place between Edison Academy and Rancho Encinitas Academy. Edison Academy students are immersed in the regular private school. Their classrooms are adjacent to their peers, and they have recess, music, art and PE together with their Rancho Encinitas peers. Overnight trips as well as day field trips are planned together with the Rancho Encinitas Academy class. Students who attend the Edison Academy often have IEPs or are eligible for accommodations under Section 504. Students are able to maintain their IEP through an ISP and the Public Schools are updated about their progress when necessary. Strong positive bonds are developed with the surrounding schools to facilitate the ISP process. Frequent contacts are made with pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, speech and language therapists and other allied professionals.
2. The Learning Environment
Edison Academy is a unique learning environment in which the natural outdoor setting creates a relaxed atmosphere conducive to learning. The natural environment is enhanced by bird aviaries and bunny hutches on campus. Students eat lunch at outdoor picnic tables with friends from other classes. There are three outdoor playground areas that students can choose from when they plan their personal development activity for the day. Jobs time at school includes recycling, and feeding the animals which promotes responsibility.
